I agree with alot of what lozby11 said. The thing is, is most groomers go through this stage. You aren't fully confident (which is normal and safe when your learning). The more confident you are, the more confident the dog will be. But, some dogs don't like to be groomed due to lack of routine or bad grooming experiences. They wont all be angels. But, It will get better. Try not to stress.

My dog used to remove her paw when i tried cutting her nails. I gave up. I thought I was hurtingher. This dog doesn´t seem to mind at all. Was I doing anything wrong? I didn´t think I was cutting too close to the nerve, base on how short her hind paws nails were.

What was all that hair inside the ears? I had never seen than and I have had cocker spaniels, french poodles, and the short haired breeds. Was that hair that grew there or went inside?

Dogs are smart, they can tell when you're newer to a certain environment than they are. Asserting yourself right from the moment you meet the dog will give you a head start. It's important to be confident and avoid getting frustrated as frustratiom from yourself fuels anxiety in the dog you're grooming. As soon as a lip is raised apply a muzzle, let them know you won't even let them go there! And be firm, if they start to pull away don't let them go until they stop. Hope this helps!

I am a learning groomer. How do you get a dog to behave to groom. I have had some that just stresses me right out. I have had one that I could not do at all. He bit he growled he was not a nice dog at all. I called the owner and told him to come get his dog. In this video your dog was very well behaved and gave you no problem. What do you do when they give you Problems

it depends on the cat, each one has its own unique hair structure so some may have thick hair and others may have thinner more flyaway... if you are diligent about your grooming and brush properly on a regular basis then you would not need to have this type of pet cut which makes it easier for the owner to maintain... so it depends on the owners diligence as well as the type of hair the cat has...

I sure wish I had seen this long ago. The times I tried grooming my persians, I ended up with bites and scratches. Holding them by the scruff of the neck, I never thought of that. It would have saved me a lot of trouble. Thanks so much. Great info for the future. Although sending them to the groomers is so nice too.

I kind of thought she was being a little bit rough... but notice that the cat didn't howl or growl or even cry out. If she'd have been giving him discomfort or pain, he'd have let her know. Cats aren't submissive like dogs to a pack leader... when they're unhappy, the let you know very defensively! I've brushed and bathed many a'cat! OUCH!

TO ANYONE WHO THINKS THIS IS ANIMAL CRUELTY- its not cuz clipping thier nails is like clipping ur own so it doesnt hurt and the way she piked the cat up is also fine coz thats how thier mother used to carry them around as kittens by the nek so they're used to it and actually like it coz it brings bak memories of thier mums which is a fact and lifting them by the nek makes them happy :)

I used to work at a Vet Hospital, which had a groomer on site. A majority of the pet owners that needed their cats groomed were elderly people who weren't capable of maintaining their pets. In cases where the cats weren't able to be handled, often times the cats were sedated, with the owners consent. That always seemed a dangerous option, but i could understand it was beneficial for the groomer. I'm just glad I trained my long haired cat to receive baths & grooming while she was young.

This is not the way all groomers handle cats (thank goodness). She is being too rough. Just because a cat can be held like that in order to stay still doesn't mean there isn't another, better way. That cat is being extremely tolerant -- and can't wait until the grooming is over. Many people have been trained to groom this way, and you can't always blame the groomer, but I hope a more gentle approach will become the more common one. Cats can learn to love grooming with lots of gentle patience!

Hey there, I just posted a video of my persian Janelle and how impossible she is to groom. I wish she was as easy as Gizmo. Last year in October she got the lion cut as well cause I was at the end of my patience with her, and also because Janelle hates it so much... she was a totally different cat without all that fur! ;)

anyone who thinks this rough has never had a cat. If the cat were hurt or in pain this lady would have her arms and face clawed. The mother cat ALWAYS lifts her babies by the scruff of the neck. This does NOT hurt the kitten/cat..in fact in nature that is the main way to calm a feline. Male cats bite the female on the scruff of the neck to simulate the mothering behavior, which is also mating behavior. Persian cats are very docile..this cat is grateful she is rid of all those knots.

To those who are not professionals, the handling appears rough, but she constantly using safety handling proceedure and grips the cat in spots that keep it in perfect balance--that is why it is so calm (and why she has no scratches on her arms ;) One shouldn't attempt this at home without formal training though.

Nice video. VC looks like a fun place to visit, it's rich in history. I think that'll be my next vacation spot. I remember reading a story about a 19th century VC woman that was famous in the area for being a phrophetess of sorts. I work at the Territorial Enterprise building in Virginia City. Sam Clemens worked in what is now the basement of the building. It is dated to 1860. Sam worked there from Aug 1862 to May 1864. The two story victorian building where most of this video was filmed, was built after the fire of 1875. Sam took the pen name Mark Twain while he was a reporter for the Enterprise. The letter signed Mark Twain was written on Dec 31, 1863 and was about the holiday goings on in Carson City.
